TikTok Shop Fee Guide
How TikTok Shop Fees Work
TikTok Shop charges sellers a referral fee on every completed order. This fee is unified and already covers payment processing. There are no separate transaction fees on top of it.
The referral fee rate varies by region and product category. Most categories in most markets share a single standard rate, with a small number of exceptions for specialty items like precious jewelry or electronics. New sellers typically qualify for a reduced promotional rate for their first weeks on the platform.
For your region's exact rates, see the official fee documentation at the bottom of this page.
How TikTok Shop Calculates Your Referral Fee
TikTok does not calculate your fee on just the item price. The official formula is:
Customer Payment is your selling price plus any shipping charged to the buyer. If TikTok ran a promotion on your product and funded a discount, that amount gets added back into the base because TikTok still charges a fee on the full value. Sales tax is excluded from the calculation.
Here is a quick example using a $35 item with $2 buyer-paid shipping at a 6% rate (US standard rate β for your region's rate, refer to the official documentation below).
Fee base = $35 + $2 = $37
Referral fee at 6% = $37 Γ 0.06 = $2.22
Your gross payout = $37 β $2.22 = $34.78
Platform discounts are added to the fee base, not subtracted. This means TikTok charges a fee on the discount amount even though TikTok funded it. This is an often-overlooked cost for sellers running promotions.
How to Use This Calculator
Choose your market at the top of the calculator. The fee rates and currency update automatically based on your selection.
Type in the price your customer pays for the item in your region's currency. If your customer also pays for shipping, enter that separately in the optional fields below.
Choose the subcategory that best matches your product. The calculator reads the correct fee rate automatically based on your selection and region.
Fill in your cost of goods, shipping, affiliate commission, and any other expenses to see your net profit and margin.
Your take-home updates in real time as you type. Open "Show fee breakdown" to see the full calculation line by line. Open "What if this order is refunded?" to understand the financial impact of a return.
Worked Example: Skincare Product at $29.99
This example uses US rates and USD ($) for illustration. If you are selling in a different region, your referral fee rate and currency will differ. Refer to the official documentation at the bottom of this page for your region's exact rates.
On a $29.99 skincare product at the US standard rate, you keep $17.69 after fees and direct costs. That works out to a 59% margin. Your actual results will vary based on your region's rate, your selling price, and your cost structure.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between take-home, net profit, and profit margin?
Take-home is what TikTok deposits into your account after deducting the referral fee. It does not include your own costs like COGS or shipping.
Net profit is what you actually keep after all costs have been deducted β including cost of goods, shipping, affiliate commission, and any other expenses you entered.
Profit margin is your net profit expressed as a percentage of your selling price. A margin above 20% is generally considered healthy for e-commerce. Below 10% is considered thin and leaves little room for returns, ad spend, or unexpected costs.
Example on a $29.99 item at 6% referral fee, $8 COGS, $2.50 shipping:
Does TikTok Shop charge a separate payment processing fee?
No. The referral fee is a unified charge that already covers payment processing. There is no additional transaction fee on top of the referral fee.
Is there a monthly fee to sell on TikTok Shop?
No. TikTok Shop has no monthly subscription fee, no listing fee, and no setup fee. You only pay when you make a sale.
What happens to the referral fee if an order is refunded?
TikTok returns the referral fee to you, minus a Refund Administration Fee of 20% of the original referral fee, capped per SKU. This fee is non-refundable regardless of whether the return was the customer's fault or yours.
Does the referral fee apply to shipping costs?
Yes. The fee is calculated on the total amount the customer pays, which includes any shipping they paid. If your customer pays for shipping, that amount is included in the fee calculation base.
What is the New Seller Promotion?
New sellers who complete onboarding and make their first sale within a set window receive a discounted referral fee rate for their first weeks of selling. The exact rate and duration varies by region. After the promotional period, standard category rates apply automatically. See official documentation β
What about sales tax?
Sales tax is excluded from the referral fee calculation. TikTok Shop handles tax collection automatically in most markets, so in most cases you do not need to enter anything in the sales tax field.
Does this calculator work for FBT (Fulfilled by TikTok) sellers?
Partially. This calculator covers the referral fee accurately for all sellers. FBT fulfillment fees are not yet included because the rate card depends on product weight, dimensions, and order quantity. To account for FBT costs, enter your estimated fulfillment cost per order in the "Your shipping cost" field.
How does TikTok Shop compare to Amazon FBA fees?
TikTok Shop's referral fees are generally lower than Amazon's referral fees for most categories. However, the true cost of selling on TikTok often includes affiliate commissions to drive traffic, which can bring the effective cost of sale closer to Amazon's level. TikTok's affiliate cost is variable and optional, while Amazon's fees are fixed and mandatory.
When does TikTok pay out my earnings?
Settlement timing varies by region and seller status. Standard sellers typically receive payment within 15 days after order delivery, provided no refund or return request is open. Always check your Seller Center for your specific settlement schedule.
Are these fees accurate for 2026?
Yes, to the best of our knowledge. We update our calculators when platform fees change. TikTok may update fees at any time without notice. Always verify current rates in your Seller Center before making pricing decisions. See the official documentation below for your region.
